Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility conditions, applicable for Civil services (P) examination are as given below.

Age Limits: For civil services (P) examination, the criterion for agelimit is that, a candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August, of the year of the examination. The upper agelimit is relaxable for certain other categories. For example, the upper age limit will be relaxable

(i) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe
(ii) upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: The candidate must have completed his graduation while appearing for preliminary examination. However, candidates who are in the final year are also eligible to apply for and appear in the preliminary examination. However, he need to submit proof of his qualification while applying for the main examination, if selected.

Attempts Allowed

Every candidate appearing at the Civil Services Examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted six attempts at the examination.This restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in the case of SC/ST candidates. Also, the number of attempts permissible to candidates belonging to OBCs, who are otherwise eligible, shall be nine. IAS/IFS officers are not eligible to appear for the exam.

FEE: Rs. 100/ either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by Cash, or by using net banking facility
(Female/SC/ST/PH Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee)


The Civil Services Examination will consist of two successive stages (vide Appendix I Section-I)
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts noted above.
Applications are now invited for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination only.
Candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination will have to apply online again, in the Detailed Application Form which would be made available to them. The Main Examination is likely to be held in December, 2016.
